Literacy and Curriculum

We believe that all students can be engaged and joyful readers who use language to create, innovate, express ideas, and contribute to their communities.

Right now, we are working to answer the following questions with the goal of identifying promising practices for literacy and curriculum organizations.

What are promising practices for working with emerging readers?

  1. What skills do adults need to help children learn to read in the early grades?
  2. What training and resources must programs provide volunteer literacy tutors?
  3. What curricular innovations will support early literacy education?

What does it mean to be literate in the twenty-first century?

  1. How will students develop college-level academic English?
  2. How will students use language to engage in their communities?
  3. How will students transfer language skills to design, technology, and media?
